Take Me Out to the Ballgame!

A gorgeous night for a baseball game - and our team even won! My 20 minute sketch (above, in pen, 5" x 7") inspired my brother to give this 20 minute sketching thing a try. (His sketch below). He is certainly no novice to sketching, but had never tried a timed sketch before. Pretty good, right?

You can see how, even though we were sitting right next to each other, there are some interesting differences in perspective and detail. Regardless, we both successfully captured the essence of the stadium, the fans, and most of all, the game in progress. I highly encourage anyone to try sketching for 20 minutes, you never know what you can accomplish. It makes the time fly by!

Frame House

This might not look like a 20 min. effort, but I assure you it is (pencil and pen, approx.
4" x 5"). I had a small sketch to work from when charting this, and I barely got through half of it as you can see. I will go back to finish the pen lines so I can actually stitch this someday. I have a specific idea in my head from a book I read, and trying to convey it visually (and small) is more difficult than I thought it would be. But a good writer describes a clear picture, so much that different illustrators will end up drawing similar pictures to each other.

A Cool Treat

This little dish of ice cream melted some during the 20 minutes while it was being sketched, but was SO delicious when finally eaten. Colored pencil, approx. 5" x 7".

My sketches have been less frequent in the past few weeks, since it's hard for me to find even 20 minutes to sketch most days! Thankfully, with all the glorious things our world has to offer, there is no lack of wonderful subjects to inspire me even if I do not produce a sketch or artwork of some sort.

Miniature Rose

Sometimes it's just delightful to sketch the lines found in plants and nature without the distraction of color for 20 minutes. This rose is charming, a miniature hot pink with lots of blooms (hopefully I can keep it alive). Pen, approx. 4" x 4". If only someone wanted to garden for me, then I could just sit back and sketch the floral abundance!

Single Strawberry

This strawberry and its juicy bright red was just begging to be sketched in 20 minutes (colored pencil, approx. 3" x 4"). I would have loved to go darker and more saturated, but with colored pencil the amount of layers takes longer to do than the 20 minute timeframe.
