Waterfall

Thanks, Monica, for your comment the other day! It's true, I haven't painted any water in 20 minutes yet. I like landscapes, and though they tend to be pretty ambitious for a 20 minute sketch, here's a quick waterfall painting (watercolor, 5 1/2" x 8"). My reference was a photo I took on a hike at one of the lovely (NY) state parks some time ago. This was a fun sketch, the time flew by. Perhaps I would add more detail in the rocks and water with a few more minutes, but there's enough to get the feel of the place here.

Baby Turtle Squee

I just couldn't resist painting this little fellow for my 20 minute sketch tonight. He
(or she?) was one of several baby turtles slowly making their way from the nest where they hatched back to their pond - across a sidewalk and a street. This happened over a period of about a week in June (a couple years ago), and I was fortunate enough to snap a bunch of pictures of them that I can now use as photo reference! I love when that happens. Watercolor - no pencil, pen, or anything else - approx. 5 1/2" x 8".

Oh, and in case you were wondering what happened to this and other blogs for the last few days, Blogger was down. They even removed some blog postings to try to fix whatever problem they were having. Annoying, but seems to be back to normal now.

Ice Cold Brewski

Nothing beats an ice cold beer on a warm night (yes! we are finally having some warmth here in the too often-cold northeast). Pen-only sketch, approx. 5" x 7". I was having fun with the contour line sketch of this, even though some irregularity comes with that freedom. No time wasted when you start drawing with pen - just dive right in and worry about fixing any iffy parts as you go. That's the joy of 20 minute sketching right there!

Little Floral Dish

An irregular set of these little floral dishes was a nice find at a rummage sale. I thought the color and pattern was pretty attractive considering they were someone else's "junk". Pen and colored pencil, approx. 4" x 4".

Would love to hear from someone in the comments one of these days... I know my art has been random and varied, but that's the nature of a sketchbook, too. Perhaps there's something you'd like to see that I haven't attempted yet?

A Mother's Day Bouquet

What a lovely day to celebrate Mother's Day! It's certainly the simplest things, like some artificially colored flowers clutched in the grubby hands of a little one, that bring such joy. These daisies were truly day-glo, but my paint colors (fortunately) toned down the vibrancy a notch or two. Watercolor and water-soluble pencil, approx. 5 1/2" x 7". Hope everyone enjoyed their Mother's Day!
