Driftwood Still Life

Walking along the shore of a large freshwater lake you can find some interesting things if you are so inclined. Tiny shells, all sorts of rocks and pebbles, some smooth and interesting driftwood, feathers, wildflowers - little bits of detritus combined for art's sake. Just a few of those are pictured in this 20 minute sketch. Watercolor, 5 1/2" x 8".

Easy Mobile Instructions

If you ever find yourself surrounded with lots of itty bits of colored paper cut into shapes (who knows, it might happen) - turn those into a simple mobile! Journal-style pages like this are really fun for me to do and I should do them more often. Pen and watercolor, 5 1/2" x 8".

Sketchbook Still Life

When I thought about doing this sort of still life, I was surprised I hadn't done it yet! I enjoy seeing other artists' painting setups, so here's a glimpse of mine: my little paintbox (small and portable) with its portable brushes, a handy waterproof ink pen, water jar and paper towels, and my sketchbook, of course.  I can go almost anywhere with this, in the hope of taking advantage of any sketching opportunity that presents itself. Pen and watercolor, 6" x 8".

Summer Bouquet

Bright greens, a sunflower (or black-eyed susan?) with its orangey-yellows, and imaginary multicolored flowers... a cheerful summertime arrangement. I have to admit I don't tire of doing these sorts of paintings in 20 minutes. They are all different, and I love trying to get deep saturated color with watercolor paint, which is not always easy to do in a short timeframe. Pen and watercolor, approx. 4 1/2" x 5 1/2".

Macaroni Salad Visual Recipe

I tried doing a visual recipe once before, but did not complete it with instructions in 20 minutes. Here, I believe the complete recipe is included. Pen and watercolor, 5 1/2" x 8".

If you feel like trying it out, know that what the illustration is lacking by way of color, the salad will more than make up for in taste. We love it! You can add other veggies, spices or salt and pepper to your liking, the recipe is very flexible.

Tiny Book

This tiny book (about 2" high) was a cute part of a gift from a friend a while ago. As yet, it remains blank inside... but if I ever wanted to write very tiny notes or bitty poems (haikus?) it would be the perfect place to do so. Colored pencil, 5" x 7".
