Something sweet

Hard candies in 20 min., pencil and watercolor on heavyweight sketch paper, approx. 6" x 9". Cellophane candy wrappers are an unusual challenge. They are "clear" but don't reflect other colors the way glass does, so figuring out how to render them is tricky. This would be a great subject for a limited palette challenge too - I think I used only four colors: burnt sienna, ultramarine blue, cadmium yellow and cadmium orange... there might be some alizarin crimson in that brown too but I can't be sure. A nice deep blue or purple as a complement to the yellow/orange would give it some needed energy, but time was up!

  1. Impressive! (How do you draw clear cellophane? They don't make a clear colored pencil!)

  2. "Clear" is an illusion - the color of it is always what shows through or reflects on it. Either that or I have one of the only "clear" colored pencils ever made :)
