Heralding the start...

Of a new school year! Let the trumpet fanfare begin.

I am continually learning as I do these sketches. Tonight, I tried a new kind of sketch paper, which was fine when sketching with my pen. When I added a little watercolor, the water soaked through and started buckling the paper. I quickly grabbed my art markers to colorize the sketch instead. They are not my favorite medium because they tend to bleed and soak through any paper, but they don't buckle paper and fine detail wasn't as much of a priority as the saturated color. So lesson learned - stick to sketch paper designed for wet media and leave the thin paper for pen and pencil sketches! Pen, watercolor and art marker, 5 1/2" x 7 1/2".
