Opening Up

20 min. sketch - 6" x 9", pencil, watercolor and water-soluble pencils. This is the image that came out of my pencil when I set it to paper tonight, without any preplanning other than having my supplies at the ready. That in and of itself is a challenge for me, but as I am trying to "loosen up" I let the materials take me away and follow their lead. The water-soluble pencils are really great for this, they are very unpredictable and I like the effects they produce when I'm not consciously trying. I've been thinking about drawing doorways lately in a more architectural sense, but this (fairy door?) pretty much drew itself. No doubt - there is magic in art.
